Balanced Diet and Regular Exercise Helps in Strengthening the Bones

We all know that balanced diet and regular exercise helps in weight loss and maintaining a fit body; however, it also provides other benefits such as strengthening bones and preventing osteoporosis.

Osteoporosis is a condition wherein the bones become brittle and fragile. It can affect any bones in the body but the most common areas are spine, hips, and wrist.

Once the bones are damaged, It can’t be replaced with new bones unlike other organs. Metals can be used but it won’t be the same as before when your bones were still undamaged. Thus, in order to keep the bones strong and healthy, experts suggest that it would be best to start at an early age. Eating balanced diet and having a regular exercise can help in strengthening the bones.

According to experts, the skeleton grows stronger if regular exercises such as brisk walking, jogging, and aerobics are performed. It is recommended that it’ll be started at an early age to prevent damage in the later years of life.

When you are already old, vigorous exercises should be avoided; however, it is still necessary to stay active in order to prevent bones from breaking. Discontinuing vices such as smoking and alcohol intake is also necessary to prevent the bones from becoming fragile.

Eating a balanced diet with adequate amounts of nutrition is essential because through foods, the body gets calcium which is stored on the bones to keep it strong.

Therefore, those who would like to lose weight aren’t the only ones who are benefiting from balanced diet and exercise because these two provide a lot of health benefits such as keeping the bones strong.

Drinking Milk in the Morning can Help in Weight Loss

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and it shouldn’t be skipped because through it, we are able to gain energy to perform daily activities. However, a very light breakfast won’t be enough especially if your activities are strenuous. Therefore, having a heavy and satisfying is important to keep the body going.

Aside from that, It is also important to eat breakfast so that the metabolism is functioning normally. However, besides eating breakfast, an Australian study suggests that drinking meal during breakfast can help in reducing hunger pangs during lunch time. As a result, drinking milk at breakfast can help in weight loss because the person won’t feel too much hunger and would not eat more.

Actually, the study had 34 subjects composed of overweight men and women. These were divided into two groups consisting of those who drink skimmed milk everyday in the morning and those who drink fruit juice in the morning.

Based from the results of the study, those who were drinking milk at breakfast were less likely to feel hungry at lunch time and would eat less because they still feel full.

Researchers are suspecting that the possible cause why these people feel full is because of the protein and the lactose content. Thus, the research suggests that drinking milk during breakfast promotes a feeling of satiety which is essential in a weight loss management program.

This study suggests that drinking milk at breakfast can help obese people to lose weight. More details of the mentioned study will be published on the July issue of the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.

Simple Tips on How to Increase Fiber in the Diet

It is widely known that increasing fiber in the diet helps in improving the overall health as well as promoting weight loss.

Eating fiber gives a sense of fullness which decreases food consumption as well as overeating.

Here are some simple tips on how to increase fiber in the diet:

• If you’re fond of eating corn flakes at breakfast, you can try shifting to bran flakes with raisins. Through this, you are able to get about 25% of your dietary fiber needs for the entire day.

• Make it a habit to eat fruits often. Although fruit juice is healthy and contains a lot of vitamins; there is one important factor that is missing, which is fiber. Instead of drinking orange juice, you can opt to eat an orange. This will not only give you enough amount of fiber, it will also make you feel full.

• As much as possible, choose whole-grain bread. One slice of whole-grain bread contains several grams of fiber, while white bread doesn’t have any fiber at all.

• Another good source of fiber are beans. You should eat more beans or try adding them to various food preparations such as soups and salads.

• Instead of consuming white rice, its best to eat brown rice because it contains more fiber per serving.

These tips are helpful not only in increasing fiber intake, but also in losing weight as well.

Sufficient Vitamin D in the Body Promotes Weight Loss

Based from a study, the levels of Vitamin D in the body can help in weight loss. Adequate exposure to sunlight will trigger our skin to produce Vitamin D, and according to a new research, more levels of Vitamin D in the body while following a low calorie diet will improve weight loss.

This research had 38 subjects consisting of overweight men and women undergoing a calorie restricted diet for eleven weeks. The subjects’ levels of Vitamin D were checked before and after the study. Researchers have found out that most of the participants were deficient in Vitamin D. Thus, it gave the researchers a theory that Vitamin D is associated with obesity. However, they are still unsure whether it was Vitamin D deficiency which caused the obesity or it was obesity that caused the deficiency of Vitamin D.

Based on the data of the participants, most of them have insufficient levels of Vitamin D. However, those with adequate levels of Vitamin D were able to lose weight more effectively while undergoing a low calorie diet.

Researchers said that more studies are needed in order to prove this theory; but, they’ve found out one thing: sufficient levels of Vitamin D in the body, together with calorie-restricted diet promote weight loss.

Aside from sunlight, there are also foods that are good sources of Vitamin D. These foods include fatty fishes like sardines and mackerel, egg, and beef liver. Including these foods in one’s diet can be helpful in getting adequate Vitamin D.

What Exactly is a Good Diet?

All of us often hear the advice about having a good diet in order to be fit and healthy; however, not all of us actually understand the exact meaning of a good diet.

To be able to understand what a good diet is, it’s best to start with the definition of healthy eating. When we say healthy eating, it means consuming the right amount of food from the all the food groups, in such a way that it promotes a healthy lifestyle.

On the other hand, majority of people would associate diet with the regimen that is done in order to lose weight. Actually, diet just refers to the food that we consume in a span of twenty four hours. Therefore, when we say good diet, it refers to the nutritional lifestyle that a person engages in. A good diet promotes good health; thus, good diet should include all the food groups because concentrating only on a certain food group can’t provide all the nutritional needs of the body.

The most important part in healthy eating is having a balanced diet. Balanced diet is good diet. As mentioned earlier, good diet requires consumption of the right amount of foods in all the food groups. According to nutritionists, there are five main food groups. These food groups are whole grains, vegetables, fruits, protein, dairy, fat and sugar.

Therefore, consumption of foods from these food groups should be in moderation and should be based on the recommended amounts in order to promote good health.

Preventing Dehydration while Exercising Regularly

Preventing Dehydration while Exercising Regularly

Regular exercise does not mean that you will only think about staying fit, losing weight, and watching on your food consumption but you should also pay attention to what you drink and the amount of your fluid intake. Exercise does not only burn calories but it also promotes water loss; thus, it is important to stay hydrated while you are exercising.

Our body is comprised mostly of water. Water has a lot of uses in our body such as maintaining normal body temperature, cushioning of joints, and transportation of nutrients as well as waste products. If you don’t drink enough water, you will become dehydrated. Dehydration will affect your performance. You will feel tired easily and you’ll experience dry mouth, light-headedness, headaches, and even constipation.

Some of the electrolytes in the body are sodium, chloride, and potassium, which helps in the body’s normal functioning. When you exercise, you sweat. Sweating causes loss of fluid and electrolytes and this loss is increased if you exercise during a hot weather. If there is too much loss and is not replaced, you will feel weak and dizzy. In worst cases, heat stroke can possibly occur and this requires immediate medical attention.

Thus, because of these side effects, experts always advise that drinking water should be done before, during, and after workouts.  Keep in mind that the amount of water that you need depends on different factors such as:

• Age

• Body structure

• Weather

• Intensity of workouts

Prior to exercise, it is important to drink water in order to promote a normal fluid and electrolyte balance.

During exercise, it is good to drink water; however, it will be much better to drink a sports drink that contains electrolytes especially if your workouts are very intensive.

After exercising, the main goal is to replenish the lost fluids and electrolytes; thus, drinking water is very essential.

NEWS: Latest Studies Found New Evidence that Vinegar Can Prevent Weight Gain

NEWS: Latest Studies Found New Evidence that Vinegar Can Prevent Weight Gain

A recent study conducted in Japan has shown new evidence about the health benefits of vinegar. According to researchers in Japan, the ordinary vinegar, which is usually used in salad dressings and other foods, is able to provide health benefits like what the folk medicine has told us. The study showed that vinegar can prevent weight gain by inhibiting accumulation of fat in the body.

It is very well known that vinegar is used in folk medicine ages ago. Folk medicine believed that vinegar has a lot of health benefits. A lot of people have been using the vinegar for different illnesses in the ancient times. According to modern science, the acetic acid content of vinegar helps in controlling blood sugar levels as well as addition of excess fat in the body.

Researchers have found out that acetic acid can fight fats by triggering the genes that are responsible for fatty acid oxidation enzymes. The genes release proteins or enzymes that are involved in breaking down fats. Thus, accumulation of excess fat in the body is inhibited.

This research will be further discussed and published in the July issue of American Chemical Society’s Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry.

Research Suggests Some Reasons Why People Overeat

Research Suggests Some Reasons Why People Overeat

One of the reasons why people gain weight is because they tend to overeat; however, what makes people overeat?

According to new researches, experts found out that obese people have a different response to food compared to people with normal weight. Obese people actually salivate more when they’ve tasted food, making them eat more.

Normally, the production of saliva decreases once a person got used to the taste of the food. There is a certain process called as habituation which is associated with feelings of fullness.

Studies suggest that the process of habituation is impaired in people who are obese; thus, they tend to eat more. Obese people are not very sensitive to feelings of fullness and as a result they overeat and gain more weight.

Since salivation is increased in obese people during eating, they tend to eat longer than normal. They do not immediately feel full and they eat more because they’re not yet satisfied, even if they’ve actually eaten a lot already.

However, these studies still lack answers as to when does impairment of habituation occur. Thus, more studies are still needed.

Studies Show that Diet is More Important than Exercise in Achieving Weight Loss

True enough, living an active lifestyle has proven a lot of health benefits. Physical activity helps in strengthening the muscles and bones, improves circulation and lowers blood pressure, and  improves mental health and mood. With physical activity, certain diseases can also be prevented such as diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and colon cancer. However, despite these benefits, physical activity may not be the only method to treat obesity.

In treating obesity, experts always suggest the combination of exercise and diet. However, according to latest researches, it shows that people who are doing this combination but pay more attention to dieting are more likely to succeed in losing weight than those who focus on exercise. Aside from that, there is no significant difference in weight loss between those who are exercising a lot and those who do not exercise much.

These researches are still new and more research are needed in order to prove these results. However, for people who would like to lose weight, it is still important to eat a balance diet and have a regular exercise in order to burn calories and prevent obesity.
