Exercise Helps in Weight Loss and Depression

It is widely known that exercise is beneficial in weight loss. Aside from that, a regular exercise will also help in maintaining a physically fit body. Exercise also promotes circulation and keeps the heart healthy.

True enough, there are a lot of benefits that exercise can provide. However, aside from the physical benefits, exercise can also help in alleviating depression.

Research have shown that exercise can help individuals with forms of depression. This is because exercise improves the person’s self esteem. In addition, when a person exercises, the body releases endorphins or also known as happy hormones. Endorphins work with certain brain receptors which results to reduced pain perception.

With regular exercise, a person with mild symptoms of depression will benefit from the following:

Reduce stress levels

Reduce feelings of depression and anxiety

Improve sleep

Increase self-esteem

Because depression involves isolation, strengthening the support system is one of the treatment goals for individuals with depression. Involving these patients with group exercises, will be a good treatment approach for depression. A close friend or significant others can also join their loved ones with depression to encourage them to exercise.

These facts show that exercise is indeed important and beneficial not only on the physical aspect but also on the psychological aspect of well being.
